1. Salty liquorice – people who know me well will
probably snort reading this, but I'm serious. A life without those candies is
not worth living. Basically, when you eat one of them you feel like a fire is
burning within the tissues of your body, a sensation difficult to stand. The
only thing to do is to yield to the emotion that pervades you. Not many people
survive this experience. Are you going to be part of the chosen ones? At least
try – then tell me.
2.THE CHICKEN MAYO SANDWICH - if you have ever been to the UK, you
probably complaint about the terrible quality of the food served there. But,
after being affected by the English fixation for the junk food, I decided to
convert myself and to worship a new God. The Chicken Mayo creator. His sons,
lovely sandwiches filled with a mixture of cooked chicken and mayo cream
(without garlic), are everywhere, you can find them at Sainsbury's, at Marks
and Spencer, at Tesco or even at the chic Waitrose. The price is low, and it's
definitively healthier than food sold in chains like Mc Donald's or KFC.
3.Normal chips with tacos spices - when I realised
that the food I had always been eating was boring, I decided to create
something new with just one target: it had to be crunchy and tasty. So why
don't put together chips, the crunchiest food ever, and mexican tacos spices,
well known for their strong flavor?
The result is a concrete satisfaction of your appetite! Nothing could be
more easier.
4. Bagel (or beigel) – Created in Poland, this round
shaped bread will just seduce your senses with its particular sweet taste and
tenderness due to the butter added to the filling. I developed the idea that it
is born to satisfy the hunger of the very early morning, after a night of wandering
in the city streets under the effect of strong cans of cider, but the true story
is far more interesting and has deep roots in the Jewish and Polish tradition.
5. ELK Meatballs (strictly with blueberry jam) - never tried? This amazing dish, a tipical Swedish one, reminds me the
scandinavian atmosphere of the lunchtime in the veranda, after pulling up the
national flag with a consequent feeling of patriotism. A tender meat easy to
cook, usually accompanied by potatoes. If you want to get out of the italian
carbohydrates diet, check this meal out. Eating that in a house full of furniture
from IKEA increase the sensation of full immersion in the Lapponian country.
6.brussel sprouts – a dietist, reading my list,
would probably feel sick at this point. But the truth is that sometimes even
vegetables can occupy a ranking in a top 10 even when it is not the one of the
dishes you should never try. Omitting for this time the several benefits of the
brussel sprouts, I truly suggest you to try them, boiled in water with both
sugar and salt. Simple taste, lovely to see, easy to prepare, and the result is
the feeling of being a healthy person for once in your life.
7.Empanadas – no one should ignore what this Argentinian food
represents. A filling of spicy meat or vegetables covered by a crunchy paste,
well done in the oven. I suggest you to try this one in the streets, in a
market with food from different cultures. It is like being transported to South
America and its 'ambiente caliente' with strong feelings for the tradition and
love for food strictly made in Argentina.
8.Bacio della strega – Once upon a time a witch lived
in a cave. Every time a man came by her den, she seduced and killed him with a
magic poison hidden inside some irresistible sweets. The only person who
survived, a child whose parents told him not to accept candies from strangers,
told the story to the world. Well, the candies were reproduced in a small
village in the mountains near Genova. Chocolate and muesli mixed together, is
there a greater combination of elements?
9.the guacamole ice-cream – Actually, I have never tried
it. But a friend who was in Tenerife told me that, after tasting it, he could
not imagine his life without it anymore. Even if I usually believe to myself
only, I have decided to give space to this proposal, with the willingness to
try it in the future. One thing is left to say: if eating this ice-cream
requires going to the Canary islands, then, Tenerife, I'm coming!
10.The wok to walk box – The first time I ate it was in
Barcelona. Then I found it in Amsterdam, before discovering that in London there
is a store as well. Well, I want to explain how it works. You enter the shop,
you take a list and a pencil, you sit on a chair and then, OMG, you tick what
you want to put in your take away box, you write your name on the top of the
piece of paper, then you give it to a chef and you wait it for it to get ready.
The variety of ingredients is countless, the sauces are amazing, and the price
is very low! The best thing is that you start by deciding the ingredients
yourself, then the staff just make it become better than you would imagine.
